The Bellingham Youth Ultimate Board of Directors establishes the priorities for the organization, approves the budget, develops connections with the community, and raises funds. These efforts are guided by the mission statement of Bellingham Youth Ultimate:
To inspire youth to be exceptional humans through playing and competing in the sport of Ultimate.
There are five board meetings per year. In addition to attending these meetings, board members are expected to contribute to fundraising efforts and to help with the growth and operation of the organization. These are some of the ways board members can contribute:
What is the Bellingham Youth Ultimate Board of Directors? The Bellingham Youth Ultimate Board of Directors is the leadership group for the organization. The Board develops and approves the budget, hires, oversees, and supports the Executive Director and sets the priorities for the organization.
Who is on the Board today? Today, the Board has 7 members with a variety of backgrounds including event planning, coaching, legal, and business development. Most are current or former Ultimate players who have competed anywhere from elite national level teams to local Bellingham club teams to local leagues and pickup games. We like diversity and are looking for new, fresh faces to help make the organization better.
What does the Board do? The Board is tasked with setting the agenda of Bellingham Youth Ultimate and “thinking big” to determine how the organization should grow as well as fundraising through events and other means.
What would I do on the Board? There are many things a new Board member could do including helping with organizational development, communications, and community outreach. Bellingham Youth Ultimate wants to help you develop as a volunteer while you help develop the organization.
What are a Board members responsibilities? The Board meets 5 times per year to review the past “quarter’s” operations and to plan the future of the organization. Members are expected to help plan and attend the meetings, serve on one or more standing Board committees, and play a role in the main fundraising event(s).
